Admission to the federal PET diploma examinations is generally granted to those who have completed a 3-or-4-year basic vocational education and training, and can provide evidence of a number of years of working experience. The same applies to the advanced federal PET diploma examinations, which sometimes require that a federal PET diploma examination be successfully passed previously. Professional organisations regulate the terms of admission, which are itemised in the various examination regulations.

Colleges of higher vocational education and training

In addition to completion of the upper secondary level (3-or-4-year basic vocational education and training, successfully completed specialised middle school or matura school), professional experience and an entry assessment are required in some cases for admission to courses at colleges of higher vocational education and training. Additional terms of admission for the specific fields are stipulated in the appendix to the Ordinance on Minimum Regulations for the Recognition of Courses and Post-Diploma Studies at Colleges of Higher Vocational Education and Training passed by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (FDEA). The education providers regulate the scope and contents of the entry assessment.
