apply their expertise on technical, legal and ethical questions in connection with digititalisation and to offer a basis to decision-makers of the education system.
strengthen the dialogue between the different stakeholders and encourage their collaboration
Mandate and responsible institution
The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK) entrust educa.ch with the management of the Swiss Specialist Agency for ICT and Education.
End of the 1980s the Federal Office for Industry, Trade and Labour (BIGA, today SERI) was looking for a partner to manage a specialist agency for informatics in education. In 1989 a partnership contract has been signed between the BIGA and the film institute (today Swiss Media Institute on Education and Culture) for the foundation and utilisation of the Swiss Agency for Information Technologies in Education (SFIB). Shortly afterwards, the EDK, too, became a partner. The Confederation and the cantons, in the framework of their joint task, introduced in 2001 a new instrument, by creating the Swiss Education Server (SBS). As the national information, learning and collaboration platform, the SBS offers tools for the integration of ICT into education to the stakeholders of the education system. Since 1st January 2017 educa.ch in its role of Swiss Specialist Agency for ICT in Education has replaced the SFIB and the SBS.
