The matura certificate allows admission to cantonal universities and Federal Institutes of Technology. For admission to study programmes in medicine in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, an additional aptitude test has to be taken, due to the limited number of places in such courses.

Admissions

Holders of matura certificates may join universities of teacher education without further examination.

The requirements for admission to universities of applied sciences without further examination include proof of 1 year's work experience. Certain faculties also require an additional aptitude test.
