Further education
During the lower secondary level, the pupils attend career guidance classes, in which pupils are encouraged to pay thought to their future lives, to analyse their career wishes and capabilities and, if necessary, to use information centres for support (e.g. vocational information centres and career guidance centres). Every canton has vocational information centres and career guidance centres available to all pupils free of charge.
Upper secondary level
The performance-based groups at basic level prepare pupils for 2-year basic vocational education and training, or for 3-to-4-year basic vocational education and training. The performance-base groups at advanced level prepare pupils for 3-to-4-year basic vocational education and training (also with vocational baccalaureate) and for general education at upper secondary level (matura schools or specialised middle schools).
Courses to bridge gaps in training
For young people who, after completing the lower secondary level, do not immediately commence basic vocational education and training or continue their education at a school on the upper secondary level, courses to bridge gaps in training are offered as transitional solutions.
