Course contents
In the basic vocational education and training, knowledge and skills are taught that are necessary for a certain profession or professional field. The basic vocational education and training comprises professional practice as well as general and profession-related education.
Education
The performance goals, learning content and its distribution through the training locations (vocational school, businesses, business-to-business courses) are determined in the ordinances on the basic vocational education and training for the respective professions as well as in the respective training plans.
General education in the vocational schools are regulated by the OPET Ordinance on the Minimum Regulations for General Education in Basic Vocational Education and Training and by the corresponding framework curriculum for general education within basic vocational education and training.
Vocational schools offer optional courses for students who are interested. Attendance must be coordinated with the business.
Vocational baccalaureate
The vocational baccalaureate can be taken in 6 disciplines: technical, business, design, commercial, natural sciences, and in health and social work. Not all cantons offer all disciplines.
The following 6 core subjects are taught:

History and civic education

Economics / business administration / law

Mathematics.
Discipline-specific in-depth subjects and at least 1 supplementary subject are also taught.
The performance goals and learning content are regulated by the Ordinance on the Vocational Baccalaureate and the framework curriculum according to the discipline in question. The Ordinance on the Vocational Baccalaureate are currently being revised.
