GirlsCoding: Yes, we can!

GirlsCoding was created at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne by a group of graduate students. Their goal is to motivate kids -- and especially girls – for computer science. Workshops initiate 9–12 years old kids in interconnected unplugged activities and coding exercises.

Mobility of the Future

No new regulatory measures for social media

In its status report the Federal Council came to the conclusion that there is no requirement for new regulatory measures for social media. The Federal Department of Home Affairs is working on an improvement of the protection of minors in the media. The draft bill should be ready by the end of 2017.

Motion Campaign for computer sciences

The Science, Education and Culture Committee has launched a motion for a campaign in computer sciences of the Confederation and the cantons in the educational fields of schooling, data monitoring and research. The campaign aims at enabling children to change from user to producer competencies.

Serious game on data protection

Datak is a free serious game from RTS, the French-speaking tv-programme, which aims to raise public awareness of the implications of data protection and Big Data. In the game, young people from 15 years meet with everyday decisions on the publication of their personal data.

JAMES Study 2016

The results of the latest study on media use of young people in Switzerland shows that the young take 25% more time in the internet than two years ago. Smartphones and flat rates have made the internet part of everyday life. More developments: Instagram and Snapchat have overtaken Facebook.
