Continuing education: what is taught?
 |  | The various continuing education institutes offer a wide range of education courses and disciplines, which differ in their objectives, content and duration according to course and target group. The subjects of continuing education activities include, for example: languages, information technology, health and medicine, staff training courses, art and culture, personal development, sport, family and household. |
Complementary education
Adults who have not done so earlier, can complete basic education (elementary skills such as reading and writing, as well as a lower secondary level qualification in a few cantons) and acquire general and vocational qualifications at the upper secondary level (matura certificate, certificate of specialised middle school, specialised matura, federal certificate of vocational education, vocational baccalaureate).
Continuing education courses are also offered for certain target groups, such as people with an immigrant background, the unemployed, older people, parents etc.
In vocationally oriented and general continuing education, as well as in career guidance, various databases provide information on a wide range of continuing education courses.
