In the academic year 2003 / 2004 approx. 5500 students attended a university of teacher education (PH) (all courses including school-related therapeutic professions such as logopedics or school orthopedagogy). The majority studied in courses at pre-School level / primary level. The normal admission requirement for studies leading to teacher qualification a university of teacher education (PH) is a Matura certificate, which almost three quarters (70 %) of the students possess. In 2004, 982 people acquired a diploma at a teacher training college (PH), 164 of which were male.
