| Graduates of other vocational courses with a degree comparable to vocational Matura or federally recognised Matura can be admitted without entrance exam if they can provide evidence of at least one year's practical work experience. | |
| Graduates of other vocational courses with at least three years education at upper secondary level will be admitted after successfully passing an entrance exam if they can provide evidence of at least one year's practical work experience. | |
| The universities of applied sciences can test a candidate's creative and artistic capabilities for admittance to a study of design. |
Holders of a specialist Matura certificate can be admitted to the corresponding studies in the fields of healthcare, social work, art, music, theatre, applied linguistics and applied psychology, which were all placed under the federal law on universities of applied sciences in 2005. Aptitude tests will be carried out in the above-mentioned range of studies.
