Specialised middle schools: What happens after graduation?
 
Specialised middle schools (FMS) prepare pupils for higher vocational education (universities of applied sciences [FH]) in the fields of healthcare, social sectors, pedagogics, communication and information (applied linguistics), designand arts, music and theatre as well as applied psychology.
 
Specialised middle school certificate
Holders of a specialised middle school certificate may enrol at universities of applied sciences [FH] if they can provide evidence of one year's work experience and have passed an entry examination.

Specialised Matura certificate
Holders of a specialised Matura certificate (Fachmaturität) may - provided this certificate is comparable to a voactional Matura or a Matura recognised in Switzerland - enrol at a teacher training college (FH) if they can provide evidence of one year's work experience.

Additional examination
Graduates of specialised middle schools (FMS) are admitted to courses at universities of teacher education (PH), if they provide proof of the necessary general education (for the pre-school and primary level teacher training) or can provide proof of a general standard of education by means of an additional examination (for the lower secondary level and psychomotorics).
