Pre-school level: what requirements are set?

In pre-school, assessment has no effect on selection: there is no division into performance-based groups. Assessment in pre-school occurs without grades. Observation sheets and parent interviews are often used as assessment tools.

At the end of pre-school, the pre-school teachers assess whether a child is ready to enter school. In the course of merging the pre-school years with the first primary school years (Grundstufe and Basisstufe), pre-school assessment practice is being reviewed. In pilot projects on assessment, appraisal patterns or assessment tools are being developed for children between 4 and 8 years of age.
