Pre-school level: Who can start with their education?
 |  | Entering kindergarten requires neither examinations nor enrolment proceedings. Kindergarten attendance is mostly voluntary in Switzerland, however, in 1999 one canton introduced compulsory kindergarten, and other cantons will follow. 98.5 % of children attend a kindergarten. In the majority of the cantons children that have special education needs or are handicapped also have the opportunity to attend kindergarten. Public Kkindergarten attendance is free of charge in Switzerland. |
