Universities: Who can attend?

The decision on the admission to a university course falls within the responsibility of the individual universities. A fundamental condition for admission is the possession of a Matura certificate or an equivalent certificate, as well as proficiency in the language of study. In principle, the selection of the branch of study is dependant on personal interests and ability. Enrolment limits, similar to an admission test, have been introduced at medicine faculties in the German part of Switzerland due to the large number of students wishing to study this subject. No foreign student candidates will be accepted in the fields of human medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine due to lack of capacity.
