Universities of teacher education: What is taught?

Pre-school and primary level
The studies consist of educational science (including aspects of special pedagogy and intercultural pedagogy), level-specific and subject-specific didactics, subject content matter and practical training.
The goal is to qualify students to teach either exclusively at the pre-school or primary level or on both of these levels, and to teach all relevant subjects (general teacher) or in a wide range of specialist fields (specialised teacher).

| to teach and educate children in accordance with legal requirements, taking into account the individual requirements of the children themselves, | |
| to register the development status and the learning behaviour of the children and to encourage them using adequate measures, | |

| to work together with other teaching staff, school management, the parents and officials, | |
| to collaborate in the development and realisation of pedagogic projects and | |
| to evaluate their own work and to plan their own further and specialist training. |
Lower secondary level
The studies comprise subject-related knowledge and didactic skills (including aspects of special pedagogy and intercultural pedagogy), as well as educational science and practical training.
The goal is to impart adequate knowledge and competence for educating and instructing pupils at lower secondary level.

| to work together with other teaching staff, school management, parents and officials, | |
| to collaborate in the development and realisation of pedagogic projects and | |
| to evaluate their own work and to plan their own further and specialist training. |
Matura schools
The studies encompass the fields of educational science, subject-related didactics and practical training and combines theory and practical work as well as teaching and research.
The goal is to reach the qualification as a teacher for Matura schools in one or two subjects (according to the Matura recognition guideline [MAR]).
