Higher vocational education: What is taught?
 
Vocational and higher vocational exams (Berufs- und höhere Fachprüfungen)
The organisation responsible from the professional world (associations, industrial or commercial sectors) regulate the teaching contents, qualification process, certificates and titles. The regulations are subject to the approval of the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology (OPET).
 
Most of the vocational exams are carried out for the professions of marketing planning, human resources managers, accounting clerks and informatics. Most of the diplomas are studied for in the areas of commercial information technology, sales management, financial analysis and agriculture.

Higher specialist schools (Höhere Fachschulen)
The higher specialist schools (HF) teach skills required for students to assume professional and management responsibilities in their specific field. The courses are practically orientated and encourage the ability to think in a methodical and networked manner, to analyse specific job-related tasks and to implement the acquired knowledge in practice.
