Pre-school level: What requirements are set?

Performance evaluation does not have an effect on selection in kindergartens: There are no divisions into achievement groups. At the end of kindergarten the kindergarten teachers assess the degree to which the children are ready to enter school. In several cantons the final decision regarding entry into school or retention rests with the parents, whereas in other cantons the school authorities or inspectorates, school commissions or the departments of education make the final decision.

School aptitude tests
School aptitude tests are only carried out by a few cantons in the German speaking part of Switzerland. Tests that have been prepared by the kindergarten teachers or the school psychologist and school counsellors are implemented.
